Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the site, the runes, and how to use what's here.
Is this site free?
Yes — every page, every reading, every meaning. No paywall, no sign-up, no email collection. The site is free to use, indefinitely.
Are the rune meanings authoritative?
The meanings are drawn from established rune-poem traditions (the Old English Rune Poem, the Old Norse Rune Poem) and from modern scholarship in Norse magic. Where the historical record is uncertain or where modern interpretations vary, we say so. Treat the readings as a thoughtful starting point, not the final word.
Is the rune reading accurate?
The randomness is genuine — the runes are shuffled with a standard Fisher-Yates algorithm and drawn at random. Whether the result is "accurate" depends on what you mean by that. The runes are a tool for reflection; what you make of the result is the reading.
Can I use the runes for magic?
Bind-runes and other rune workings are part of the tradition, and we cover the basics on the bind-rune pages. The site does not promise that any particular working will produce any particular outcome. Magic in the Norse tradition is best understood as focused intention, not as supernatural intervention.
Do you sell jewellery, prints, or readings?
Not currently. The site is purely informational. If that changes the navigation will reflect it; for now there is nothing to buy and nothing being sold.
I noticed an error. How do I report it?
Please use the contact page. Citations welcome — accurate sourcing is more useful than vague feedback.
